Dose unknown: The only time I have seen this used is as a vitamin supplement for exotic birds. In nearly 4 decades of working with kids in the US and overseas, I have never heard of any use for them.  It may be something specific to the cultural practices in your local, but not a part of care here.

High in protein: Spirulina is an edible bacteria high in protein, containing all the essential amino acids that you need in a day.  Protein is filling, and so less likely to trigger hunger a few hours later the way carbohydrates can (particularly sugars or simple carbs such as found in foods made from refined flour or white potatoes etc). Needs to be from high quality source, not contaminated w algae/heavy metals.

Can be contaminated with toxic substances called microcystins and absorb heavy metals from water source. Yet, no studies definitively proving health benefits so best to avoid.
