dull ache in upper right abdomen for over a year. negative ab ultrasound a year ago but dull throb remains.  also have heartburn and occasional light stools/loose stools.  no weight loss or jaundice.  should i be worried of cancer of liver/pancreas?

Right upper: The negative us is reassuring about ruling out liver pathology and gall stones, and to some degree,pancreatic cancer. Sludge in the gall bladder may not be seen on us. I recommend an evaluation by a gastroenterologist. Appropriate tests will be ordered and could include abdominal ct scan,mri as well as tests for malabsorption and pancreatic insufficiency.

Abdominal pain: Even though it's reassuring to know that it doesn't hurt when you press, it is important to see your doctor to get evaluated for causes that could include but not limited to liver, gall bladder, acid reflux etc.

Many causes: The causes of right sided abdominal pain are many. In upper abdomen, gall bladder, liver, stomach, small bowel, large bowel, and kidney can all contribute. Appendix symptoms are usually in the right lower quadrant of abdomen.The large bowel extends from right to left side and cause both right and left sided pain. Right kidney and head of pancreas may also be left sided. See doctor for exxamination.

im having a dull pain in upper right abdomen. i would say its maybe 2 inches or so above belly button to the right. dull pain comes and goes but feels extremely sore like a bruise if pressed on. doctor thinks gallbladder but im only 25. female?

: Gallbladder inflammation can be caused by a high fat diet, obesity and other risk factors. It is typically seen in older persons, but can occur in a younger person with risk factors. Imaging can help clarify the cause.

Doctor can check: In that area are the liver, gallbladder, part of the intestine, and of course some muscle and ribs. The right kidney is deeper inside, near there. One's primary care doctor can examine to see if there is any reason to worry. A patient can write down details such as when the pain started, was it sudden or gradual, was there any trauma (such as in sports), etc., and show the details to the doctor.

RUQ abdominal pain: Retained bile dust stone, or peptic ulcer could be reasons. You should seek further evaluation by a physician.

RUQ pain: Are you constipated ,that can at times cause problems . Would also evaluate gallbladder(ultrasound/ CT) . would also consider colon assessment (colonoscopy) if above is negative and pancreas ( CT) . or kidney in particular stone . May also be variant appendix (CT) f/u/ w/ doc

Possible: it is possible, if the liver is enlarged due to excess amount of fat, a person can get dull pain in the upper right abdomen. Other problems should be excluded, and an image of the liver is indicated

Gall bladder: Consider gall bladder.  This is associated with eating and found right where your pain is.  Try less challenging foods, avoid fatty foods, and monitor for progressing symptoms.  If does NT clear, may need ultrasound to check for gall stones or problems.  Talk to primary doc first.
