i had a tonsillectomy 10 days ago and i have a really dry mouth despite drinking plenty of water,chewing gum, and sucking on lozenges. help any sugges?

Loss of salivation: Tonsillectomy can be associated with loss of few minor salivay glands or few nerve fibers that normally control the function of salivay glands (producing saliva). Loss of salivation makes your mouth dry but your body gradually compensates for the loss. Check again with your surgeon if the dryness continues or doesn't begin to improve in a week or two.

i did tonsillectomy on 08 april 2019 and i have this horrible breath smell in the mornings, my throat becomes very dry at night ?

Dryness: Dryness is the problem. Mouth breathing during sleep is very drying to the oral passage. Try not to sleep on your back. Keep a glass of water at your bedside for sipping during the night if and when you awaken.

Dry throat: Because it hurts to swallow after a tonsillectomy, patients often get dry mucous membranes which worsens post-op pain.  Gargling with warm salt water can help, as can numbing lozenges that relieve pain.  Drooling, inability to swallow, bleeding, difficulty speaking or difficulty breathing should be evaluated as soon as possible by a physician.

E. coli: Nothing is impossible, but this particular bacteria is not known to commonly cause infection in the upper respiratory tract in immunocompetant individuals. Tonsillar infection would be very very very rare.

Yes: The tonsils and adenoids represent large collections of gland tissue that are often involved with strep infections. After removal of most of those structures there will still be other glandular tissue present that can become infected with strep.

Best discussed with: Best discussed with ENT surgeon.  It depends upon how many days child has been on antibiotics.  Surgery might be rescheduled.

Simple: If you did not see blood or clots in your mouth and throat, there is no bleeding.

At least 6 episodes: 6 episodes of documented strep or pharyngitis with fever for 2 years.
