Itchy ear: Possibly uri.  Possibly allergy. Do you have seasonal allergy? Did something like an antihistamine provide relief?

No: Not really but dryness will make itchy throat worse so you have to know the reason for your itchy throat.

Viral: If you  have had a throat swab and it was negative for both the quick id and throw culture then this is most likely a viral illness.  It even could be the flu.

Viral URI: These symptoms are characteristic of a viral upper respiratory tract infection and now there is bronchial involvement. This should gradually resolve, but worrisome symptoms would be fever, sweats,shaking chills, worsening cough, production of copious discolored sputum, sharp inspiratory chest pains, shortness of breath or wheezing. Any of these warrants an examination by a physician.

Maybe strep,cold,etc: Nose and throat symptoms can be from cold/flu viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc., except that allergies usually don't cause a fever. Flu causes fever. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics "right away", which means within the first 3 days of a strep throat infection. Doctors also have a 15-minute test for Flu A and Flu B.
