Alcohol: Alcohol absorbs through the tissues in your mouth. Every single drug screening or treatment program i know tells every single patient this and that this type of product is not acceptable if one is being tested for alcohol.  Putting listorine into your mouth is the same as drinking alcohol.The taste alone often triggers patients back into relapse.

do i have to brush teeth even after only drinking whatever kind of fluids? my point is, i didn't chew anything, so can't i just mouthwash and be done?

Accepted Answer

When to brush: Brush in the morning when you get up and before you go to bed = 2 times.  Then in addition it is best and optional to brush about 1/2 hour after eating even with only a brush and water (no toothpaste here is ok).  Mouthwash never replaces brushing as it cannot properly dislodge the debris.

my breath smells like poop. my dentist & hygienist says my mouth/teeth/gums are in perfect shape. i brush/floss/tongue scrape/mouthwash rinse 4 times a day. i have not been drinking a lot of water which has me constipated, can that be the cause?

: Bad breath can be caused by many different factors, including sinus infections, periodontal problems, smoking, cavities, acid reflux, and your diet. Since your mouth is in perfect shape it's something else. Address all of these possibilities with your physician, and I'm confident that your problem will at least be minimized, and hopefully eradicated.

Unsure: While alcohol consumption is a significant risk factor (especially when mixed with tobacco smoke) for head and neck cancer, the debate about the effect of oral mouthwash continues.  There is some belief that regular exposure may increase the risk of having abnormalities along the lining of the mouth.

Top mouth rinses: Top in sales, effectiveness or ?  There are so many on the market and they all have different ingredients and indications. In general, they are not even an essential part of good oral hygiene. Ask your own dentist to recommend the right one for you based upon your specific circumstances and needs.

Yes: Your priorities for a healthy mouth are brushing with a flouride toothpaste, flossing daily and seeing your dentist.  Using a mouth wash with flouride is great but not necessary.
Most mouthwashes are made to freshen your breath for a short period of time.
Pick one with flouride so it does two things instead of one.

Bacteria: A clean mouth is always good for you.  Mouthwash can help kill that bacterial plaque that we miss when we brush or floss incorrectly.
