Still Controversial: John, I'm still not completely through the book, but the premise is one that I am beginning to agree with--namely that carbohydrates are the "root of all evil."  Keep in mind that this assertion is still very controversial, and you will find some doctors who agree with it and some who do not--which is true of almost any new idea amongst doctors. : Black specks are due to food like banana, blueberries, figs,, plums. Possibility of blood is unlikely but if you are still concerned, hemeoccult test can be  done in doctor office.hope it helps.

So they said..: Well, it is a well known thing that whole-grains are better for you, because it is not as vigorously processed. Processed foods strip off the vitamins/fibers and thus not much health benefit left. Whole-grains retain the 'shells" which is the part containing the most vitamins/fibers.
But like anything else, excessive may not be a good thing. Key is balance.

Eat, eat, eat.: You can gain calories by just eating more food. People tend to gain weight with meat because it's more calorie-dense than other foods, but you'd gain more weight by just eating more of less calorie-dense foods.  Just keep it healthy - there's a difference between gaining muscle weight and just getting fat.  And exercise as well, so you gain lean mass and not just get fat.

Not: Lack of dairy products in your diet, sun exposure ( or calcium/phosphorus/vit d) and lack of exercise can cause osteoporosis,  if you are generally healthy otherwise at your age.

They are not: The most important food group. Many people cannot tolerate grains and much of our gluten is genetically modified and causes lots of digestive issues. So grains are not the most important food group.
