dr braun.   my friend took 6 g of erythromycin two days ago.  he threw up like crazy, had sever stomach pains, but seems ok now.  what now?

Erythromycin : Erythromycin often causes gastric irritation and vomiting. Obviously this didn't cure the condition he was taking it for. He needs to see his physician and get a different antibiotic

YES: Ear thermometers when used correctly can be quite accurate. There are some limitations, . It is not as good in infants due to their ear canal size . But in older children and teens and adults it is great.

i have noticed that my ear thermometer by braun always seems to read a degree or so higher than my digital.  is this generally the case?

Check the setting: Some of these thermometers allow you t set the readout as oral vs rectal and program in an extra degree for the rectal setting. It may require reading through the instructions that came with the product to reset it.

why do most refer to the test for fetal rbcs in the maternal circulation as the k-b test instead of the k-b-b test.  what happened to braun?

K-B: I don't know what happened to braun. I have always known the test as a kleinhauer-betke test. It may be a regional difference in names.

mom always had great dental hygiene. brushed over 5min twice daily w/ braun. now 92 in nursing home and visible plaque along gumlines. need solutions?

Hygiene for seniors : It may be hard for her to hold the toothbrush now.  A wide handled toothbrush may be easier to hold instead of a smaller brush. (the bristles should still be small however) use  pre or post rinsing mouthwashes to help loosen plaque.  Remind her to massage the gums.  She may need daily help with her hygiene now. I would suggest dental checkups every 4 months now instead of only twice a year.

53 year old male has facial and hand twitch tics at the same times when overly excited, its most intense when anticipating intimacy. what are possible causes? i need ideas of what it could be to convince him to see a dr?

: Would classify within a "movement disorder".  Could represent a compensated essential tremor, a forme-fruste of Tourette's, or even paroxysmal chores-athetosis, amongst some thoughts.  Unlikely to be a profound problem, but could be treated and controlled with contemporary medications.

hi my 3 year old fell at school and hit his head on the floor. left nostril was bleeding. theres no bumps yet just bruising. nose stop bleeding. teacher said he was fine he is napping now though. should i take him to dr?

Head trauma: Just need to observe x 1-2 days. Emesis, head pain or swelling or a change in
alert status warrants an MD visit. Otherwise, rest, Tylenol for pain or fever,
and observe at home. Glad the nosebleed stopped quickly, common in kids in general.
