Save The Wrappers!!: Well, it's like any antibiotic. Depends on why you're taking it. You've gotta weigh the potential risks of whatever it is you have (?gingivitis? recurring skin infection? acne? a recurring compulsion so save all of your used chewing gum?) versus the potential risks of taking an antibiotic for prolonged periods of time (resistant organisms, side effects, expense). In most cases, no big deal.

Yes: Doxycycline has the potential to lower the effectiveness of a birth control pill. If you are having your period you are probably ok.

Not really. : You may be pregnant.  While taking Doxycycline and many other antibiotics, birth control pills are less effective, thus making you more likely to be pregnant which would then explain the potential for a late period. If you are in fact not pregnant, the antibiotic is not in and of itself a reason to delay your period. Check a pregnancy test and if no pregnancy note it is common to miss a period!

Unrelated?: This is probably just a coincidence, especially if you're sure you're not pregnant:  doxycycline isn't known to cause menstrual abnormalities. If you miss another cycle or if any other doubts, check with your doctor. (By the way, Ureaplasma is normal and healthy in the genital tract. It almost never requires treatment. STD clinics normally don't ever test for it.)

im on tri sprintec lo. i been on it for two years. i have been on the sugar pack since sunday and its tuesday but no period yet or bleeding. im on doxycycline too. should i be concerned or normal? no chance of pregnancy?

: Your period may be a little late, just continue to take the sugar tablet for now then start a new blister card the very next day no matter when your period started. You will be taking a pill every day without interruption. You can do a urine pregnancy test if you think you missed your period.

Not together: To maximize the absorption of the antimicrobial, take it 2 hours before or 3 hours after the multivitamin.

22y.o. on jadelle for 2.5 years no periods. recently started doxycycline for skin now light period every 2 weeks. no other changes. is this ok?

Yes: Jadelle is a long term implant with Progesterone so irregular periods is common. Having no periods for several years then getting them is not unusual. It could be that taking Doxycycline changed the level of the hormone just enough to allow periods to come. You are still protected.
