No, it's not: and any mole that is changing is suspicious for development of melanoma.  You should definitely see someone for this.  And you should definitely stop tanning----yesterday!  Don't pick at or scratch the mole, and apply high powered sunscreen everywhere.

i had a changing mole removed last week and i am still waiting on results. i am 26 with a history of heavy tanning. is it abnormal for a biopsy to take this long?

Work flow: Lab work flow for tissue samples requires usually two days for processing and reporting of routine cases. Sometimes a case may have complexity under the microscope and require additional studies taking a few more days. Most physicians schedule follow-up between 7-14 days to account for this variable process. Pigmented  lesions are  critical cases, so consultation between pathologists is common.

Different things: An itchy mole deserves a certain amount of vigilance.  Sometimes the itch may not be the mole but the surrounding skin or a clogged pore within the mole.   One must make certain that if it is indeed the mole that is itching that  along with the itch there are not additional changes in the mole such as color, size shape or elevation.  When in doubt consult a dermatologist.

: If any moles change in size a dermatologist should inspect them. I wouldn't attribute it to weight gain.

Yes: Moles can be small or large. If your moles are growing, at age 44, you need to have them evaluated by a physician and possibly removed.
