Decreased perfusion: Preeclampsia causes decreased placental blood flow which in turn causes decreased fetal blood flow which causes decreased fetal kidney blood flow which results in decreased fetal urine output which results in decreased amniotic fluid volume which is known as oligohydramnios.

i'm almost 32 weeks.  saw dr today. my bp was 141/92. got steroid shot for baby's lung. being monitored now for preeclampsia and borderline low amniotic fluid. dr said i'll likely deliver between 36-38 weeks. how long will baby need to stay in nicu?

Unknown: unfortunately it's hard to tell exactly how well developed a baby's lungs will be between 36 to 38 weeks. We know that at 37 weeks Kama most babies lungs are mature but even then we have cases where baby need to stay in the NICU for a longer. it's safe to say though that you should try to not worry about this since it is out of your control and may be increasing your blood pressure

is 30 ml/dl normal for 33 weeks pregnant? doctors sent me on a chicken run to be screened for preeclampsia but so far had negative results. i also had low amniotic fluid a few weeks ago & originally went in for blurry vision in r eye?

Preeclampsia : That is a good question, it is easier to tell you the treatment than the cause.  The treatment is delivery of the fetus and magnesium for the mother.  Also concerning is that women who have this are at increased risk of hypertension for the rest of their life.

Neither: There is no definite etiology known for pre-eclampsia.  The predominent theory is that the placenta is a significant factor in the development of pre-eclampsia, how or why is not known.  It is clear that the cure for pre-eclampsia is delivery - so something about the pregnancy is clearly involved. To further complicate the picture, about 25% of pre-eclampsia cases arise after delivery.

Several mechanisms: Severe high blood pressure can cause the heart to perform less efficiently causing "cardiogenic pulmonary edema" and the release of chemicals which promote inflammation ( cytokines) cause the capillaries ( tiny blood vessels) in the lungs to become leaky causing "non cardiogenic pulmonary edema) both mechanisms can be at work.

True: When sitting, the BP is higher
on your left side you take the weight of the pregnant uterus off the aorta and the weight of the liver off the kidney
this allows more blood flow through the renal artery and the uterus which lowers the BP and is good for the placental circulation and the baby.

Pre eclampsia causes: Pre Eclampsia is not caused by high protein in urine.But Pre Eclampsis causes High Protein in urine.It is a complication of pregnancy.
It is not caused by eating too much protein in any form
