Yes: Conception occurs within day or so of the sex. It takes about 3 weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG for a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully.

Later: When your period is due, a pregnancy test will be positive if you have conceived.  You have done the pregnancy tests too soon after having sex for the test to be positive.  It takes 10 to 14 days after conception for the test to turn positive.

Not True!: If the otc test is negative you can get a blood test but the Depo-Provera will not cause the otc test to be false negative or positive.

Not if it's negative: A positive test is pretty accurate, but a negative test is not reliable that early.  It can take 11 days after conception to show a positive blood test result.  To make it more complicated, since sperm can live for up to 5 days inside a woman, and ovulation is sometimes difficult to pinpoint exactly, she can conceive later than she thought, and need to wait longer for a positive result.

Blood test: If you missed a period before the blood test, and the result was negative, you are unlikely to be pregnant. For urine tests you need to follow the instructions carefully, including the time within which the result should be read.

Yes: Blood tests can be done soon after conception (8-9 days after).  It's best to wait until after your first missed period to test with he urine pregnancy tests.  Be sure to accurately follow the directions to get a valid result.  Other causes of false negative tests are not using first urine of the morning and drinking too much water before testing.
