mineral oil for constipation, does it work?

Yes it works: But may take several doses over several days to resolve. Stay on liquids during the time until the constipation is resolved. It is not meant nor good to be taken every day for long periods of time. Better to treat the cause of the constipation and hence prevent it than to have to treat the constipation after it develops.

No need to mix: Anything but if you are using mineral oil i would take a dose independent of meals. If you are constipated go on a liquid diet until resolved. Don't add more roughage to a plugged system any more than you would continue to stuff garbage into your disposal if your sink was plugged up.

i took 5 sennosides and 3/4ths of a bottle of mineral oil to help my constipation. will i be ok? i'm getting kind of scared

Probably: Will be crampy and could get dehydrated if it all hits at once. Drink alot of water  and stay close to home. Why are you so constipated ? Is it chronic? See your dr for a work up of this if its a chronic problem.

Not likely: Mineral oil is relatively mild when used as directed and not in excess or for prolonged periods of time.

can i take a expired mineral oil or saline enema. i just had a dnc and my constipation is horrible. it's hard to read date but i thinkbit says 2002?

No: The chemicals in the drug will start to disintegrate after the expiration date. Some may still retain some activity but who is to say how much or not. Remain safe stay away from expired drugs

i gave my 6 yr old daughter mineral oil 2 days ago for constipation. now she has had dirreaha not constantly for a day. is this part of the mineral oi?

Suggest other Rx: Mineral oil is a poor choice for a laxative for most people. It's likely simply to be passed as oil, around hard stool that remind behind. It's dangerous if it accidentally finds its way into the lungs. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) or something similar is a much better choice. We're always learning & probably no damage has been done.

Constipation: If you tried lactulose and MiraLAX and still constipated see your doctor for amitiza (lubiprostone).

tried liquid suppository, mom, mineral oil enema, still no bm from constipation due to meds and bruised ribs! what can i do now for immediate relief??

Magnesium citrate: You have correctly tried transrectal route for relief of your constipation.  It is also helpful to treat from above with oral laxatives.  One bottle of overt the counter magnesium citrate should work.  If not you may need to seek medical care/advice.

should i be concerned? my granddaughter (we have guardianship) was constipated all the time . dr. said give her mineral oil. now when she poos (it's like huge 2" in diameter and very long ) should i be worried?

As : As long as she is passing stool regularly without bleeding or pain, it is fine.  If she is continuing to have pain when she poops or if there is blood on the outside of the stool or on the toilet paper when she wipes, contact her doctor.  She may need a different medication in order to achieve regular, soft stools.  Other things you can do to help are to encourage her to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water.
