why does magnesium citrate (100mg) cause me diarrhea? this is such a low dose to cause that so why does it happen? would mag orotate cause diarrhea???

Magnesium: There is a brand of Magnesium called "Jigsaw Magnesium."  It is a blend of several forms of magnesium and less likely to cause the runs.  Peace and good health.

loose stools and significant white mucus in stool after starting to take magnesium citrate (150mg, 1 x daily) and probiotic (50bn cfu 1 x daily). used to be constipated (6 months). had fecal calprotectin test 4 months ago and was negative. ibs?

Constipation: You may better off by increasing your fiber and water intake. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

Magnesium: Magnesium supplements do cause diarrhea in some people. It should subside in a day or two after stopping them.  Taking magnesium with food may reduce diarrhea. Magnesium glycinate is less apt to cause loose stools.

ive been constiapted and took magnesium citrate liquid which did give me watery, diarrhea (good amount) and eventually the stool was clear. hours later i still have rectal pressure and a couple hours ago had small poops? is this normal?

: Magnesium citrate delivers a bolus of magnesium to the intestines that will result in diarrhea within 12 hours. Unfortunately it will also result in hypotonic bowels for at least 24 hours after administration. Treat the root cause of the constipation (increase fiber intake, more water, and less dairy) and try not to rely on laxatives.

i took magnesium citrate liquid for constipation, my diarrhea is now a yellowish color (which i think means im cleared out) but i still feel an uncomfortable pressure in my rectum, it makes me feel like i have to go to the bathroom. what could it be?

: Passing yellowish loose liquid after taking magnesium citrate does not always mean the constipation has been relieved. You have to pass a lot of fecal materials along with watery stool for defining the effectiveness. Fecal impaction can cause the sx you feel, because the liquid stool goes around the impacted stool. If you truly passed out a lot of feces, do a warm sitz bath for that feeling.

i have fecal loading (x ray). no success w laxative (magnesium citrate,miralax) only got a bit of diarrhea losing lot of water. no appetite & nauseous?

Constipation: constipation, easy to diagnose but difficult to treat. It is a long-term problem, needing long-term solution with life style changes, plenty of fruits and vegetable intake, proper water intake, regular toilet routine and ling term use of Miralax (polyethylene glycol). May need to see gastroenterolgy specialist if the problem persists

Yes, but: It will all be "water weight". Mag citrate acts as a laxative and makes you poop out water/electrolytes. You might see weight loss because of that, but it is not fat that you are losing! too much mag citrate use to lose weight is a possible sign of laxative abuse.
