went on lexapro (escitalopram) and soon after began feeling weak and cold. i learned low blood pressure can make you feel this way. is 114/66 low?

Healthy BP: A BP of 114/66 is healthy. If you were on multiple medications with the purpose of 'treating' or controlling your blood pressure then you could possible decrease the dosage a little as treating to less than 130mm hg usually is not helpful for simple hypertension. However, if you're not taking any medications for blood pressure control, then congratulations you have a healthy blood pressure.

i have anxiety. zoloft made me dizzy and gave me low blood pressure 90/65. would lexipro likely give me less side effects? any advice what to ask my doctor for?

Anxiety: I am not a fan of SSRI medications for anxiety. I would first try taking the supplement L-theanine 100-200 mg twice daily. If sleep is an issue, at 5-htp 150 mg at bedtime. Also, avoid sugar and highly processed food as they can feed anxiety in many people.

Question 3

can lexapro cause low heart beat. on 20mg and my heart rate gets down to mid-50's sometimes. is this normal?

Hmm?:  Tachycardia or palpitations can occur. I am not familiar with bradycardia due to Lexapro.

60 lbs: 60 lbs overweight at your age requires careful management under control of a dietitian. Have your doctor schedule the dietitian's visit to you.

can lexapro (escitalopram) still cause sleepiness in low doses, say 10mg per day  this is treatment for ocd?

Some people: Yes in some people - try taking the medication at bedtime if you feels like it makes you sleepy.

would low body temperature cause anxiety? get attacks every night and take lexapro (escitalopram) which helps, but doesn't fix the problem. also have low thyroid.

Possibly: hypothyroidism may contribute to lower body temp or feeling cold, as might a history of anxiety. Interestingly both issues are associated with constriction of blood flow to extremities, increasing the feeling of cold. suggest discussing symptoms with your provider. Also consider cognitive behavior therapy for panic symptoms as well as visualization activities to increase blood flow to extremities.

does 2.5mg dose of lexapro cause side effects the same as the higher doses? or lower doses cause fewer side effects?

: It varies a lot. Most side effects are less with a smaller dose but some may be the same. In general, side effects are dose dependent except allergic reaction. Take care.

Usually not: Most people do not notice any major difference between brand and generic medications, as the active ingredient is supposed to be the same.  However, in my experience, I occasionally have a rare patient who perceives variable efficacy between the brand and generic or between different generics. In those cases, he/she requests that I write for the either the specific generic preferred or brand name.

Lexapro (escitalopram): Very rare side-effect is GI bleeding from decrease platelet count. Caution if use with Aspirin or Anticoagulants.

Accepted Answer

No: There is no information in the official literature for Lexapro (escitalopram) that hypoglycemia is a side effect.
