Look Simple First: Stress can cause hair loss. You listed a lot of tests, but few basic ones. Iron def is an often overlooked cause and may be one the most common. You don't have to have anemia but low iron, simp blood test. Preg or early preg loss. OCPs. Menopause. Thyroid dz. Other B vit def. (biotin). Sig wt loss. PCOS. Meds. Low estrogen.  In male pat levels not always high. consid bx. Basic w/u 1st. PCP 1st.

6 months: Telogen effluvium or hair loss from stress causes shedding of hair for several months but it grows back. Hair normally grows a centimeter a month after it starts growing.

Thinning Hair: I am sorry to hear about your loss. The more estrogen in your body during pregnancy can give you very luxuriant hair and you shed less. But after a miscarriage the hormone levels can drop back to normal, and the hair that was on hold goes from growth to resting state and then will shed. This shedding can be quite noticeable for at least a 3-4 months after the miscarriage then slow.

will zinc and selenium help with my thinning hair since miscarriage 7 weeks ago? it's making me so depressed and i want my hair back :-(

Won't hurt: The drop in hormonal levels after a pregnancy ends frequently leads to hair loss. This does reverse over time but be sure you do not also have a thyroid problem which can effect the hair. The vitamins and dietary protein may help some but, unfortunately, it does take time. Hope you are feeling better fast. The loss of a baby is hard.

Need to be seen: One concern out of many that I have is of a small androgen-producing tumor somewhere.  Your physician needs to consider all the possibilities before deciding that "stress" is a cause. I'm sorry for the loss of your child.

Possible connection: Pregnancy causes wild changes in your hormones.  Most pregnant women notice a nice increase in hair volume, which often falls out after the pregnancy is complete.  Whether your hair loss is related to the pregnancy depends on how far along you were at the time of the miscarriage.  Hormone levels might be helpful.

Maybe related issues: There are sudden hormonal shifts w/miscarriage. Those shifts put many of the normally growing hairs on scalp into a resting phase.  At the end of 3-4 months of this resting phase, hairs shed.  Many of them should grow back unless there are other underlying health issues.  If there was a significant blood loss w/miscarriage, hair loss could also happen.  Flakes are most likely seborrheic dermatitis.

Not likely : Hair loss does occur temporarily after being pregnant. This typically occurs in the first few months and resolved by 6 to 9 months. It is called telogen effluvium. Since it has been one year it is not likely to be related to your current problem

Yes: ANA is just a marker that we look for to screen for lupus.  It is not perfect.  Just because it is negative does not mean you do not have lupus.  Also, just because it is positive does not mean you have it either.
