Hard to tell: GD is a difficult process to sort out during pregnancy by symptoms, like urinating more often, because you will anyway.Prenatal visits will routinely include a urine test for sugar, and a timed blood test to detect response to a sugar load. As long as you keep up with the routine visits, it would be picked up early enough to help.

Pattern not number: Baby begins to make their own Insulin during mid pregnancy & any moment that moms levels are high will push glucose across the placenta, forcing baby to store the excess as fat.Any maternal levels above normal can lead to enlarged organs, defects, large baby & the need for IV fluid treatment after birth . The better mom's control, the less problems for baby, the worse control, the bigger the pbs.

Keep trying: Keep monitoring and trying.  Gestational dm puts you at risk for diabetes lifelong. Being overweight increases that risk. Keep your weight as normal as possible. Join a supervised weight management program if needed to find out the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off. Good luck.

Then: Change the sweet tooth. The more sweet you eat they more sweet you crave. Reducing sweet intake and remaining active and regular check ups will help

Measurement error: Often, if there's no diabetes, it is a measurement error, or just a big baby.
You didn't say how far along you were , but the closer to the end of pregnancy, the more variability of measurement due to the position of the baby.  A trend is more important that a single measurement, i expect your physician asked you to come back a little sooner than usual to get another measurement.
