We were always taught that being out in the cold or a rainy day does not predispose one to catching a cold, but recent research suggests that when the nasal membrane gets cold, ability to ward of head colds is impaired. Probably, the use of the lma compressed some nerves deep into the walls of the throat or base of the tongue. Sometimes the facial nerve can get compressed by using a mask strap (bucal branch). It is rarely on both sides. Most will go away in several days. If not, consult your doctor or a neurologist.
