Not to worry: Often times the medications used during intravenous sedation for wisdom teeth extraction actually are the same medications that can be used to treat active seisures.  Your pcp and oral surgeon should work together to determine the safest location for the surgery to be performed.

Yes, but why?: I believe the argument that wisdom teeth causes crowding is a fallacy.  Here is my analogy; let's say you have a tug of war, on one side you have 2 men, 2 women 1 teenager and 2 kids on the other side you have 1 man. Start tugging. Who do you think will win.  It is 7 vs 1. Mesial drift + mal alignment and some other fractors cause crowding, not the wisdom teeth.  Good luck.

None - Only Local: The best is to only use the local anesthetics to get the area fully numb.  The sedation route can cause too many problems that are too complex.  People elect sedation based on their fear that is artificially produced.  Be smart and use only the local.

Initial 2 days: Initial recovery is 2 days, 4 if you have extensive swelling.  Ice is very helpful the first 24 hours.  Sutures usually removed or gone in 1 week.  The extraction site will fill in and remodel over time.  The hole will turn into a depression and finally become a smooth ridge taking 6 months.  The late healing will be unnoticeable to you except it will trap food less and less.

Stitches: Did Surgeon tell you stitches will need to be removed at a follow-up visit, or that they would fall out on their own?  Call the surgeon yo report your status and ask for instructions.

Each : Each case varies due to the degree of difficulty in removing the teeth, length of surgery, underlying medical issues, and the patients pain tolerance.  I tell my patients that they typically can expect spending two days at home recovering, primarily to keep ice on the surgical site and to make sure they are well hydrated, eating well and taking their medications.  The second day tends to be the most challenging as the sedation medications, if used, have worn off and swelling, if it were to develop, is present.  Usually you are feeling well enough on the third day to return to normal routines.  Failure to control swelling or to keep the surgical sites clean will prolong your recovery.

You : You are not that old! wisdom teeth are sometimes extracted on much older adults.

Recovery time not only varies from patient to patient, but from tooth to tooth. Just because the tooth is partially erupted doesn't mean the roots aren't hooked, or that it won't be a difficult extraction. Many things can happen; teeth sometimes break, resulting in a more invasive procedure.

You will be sore for a few days, you might get some swelling, and you may feel like you have a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. These symptoms are all normal.

Your dentist/oral surgeon will prescribe the proper pain meds and advise you on post operative procedures in regards to minimizing discomfort.

Feeling better in wk: It will actually take months for the sockets in the bone to heal, but discomfort should be well on its way down after 3-4 days unless you develop a dry socket.  The gums should feel a lot better after about a week.  It really depends on the amount of trauma that was incurred by your mouth.

See answer: Most patients have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted under local anesthesia with sedation. The post op pain is controlled with narcotics that can last 1-2 weeks. There is no point of going thru this more than once!
