Thyroid: Thyroid dysfunction can be characterized by changes in weight, heat/cold intolerance, a fast or slow pulse, swelling, and even congestive heart failure.  Thyroid evaluation starts very simply with blood tests ( TSH and free t4). You may require further testing if these results are abnormal.

Dairy Doesn't: Dairy doesn't, but some medications or other substances can.  Marijuana is well know for causing gynecomastia.  Your physician or your pharmacist can go over your medication list to see if anything else might be causing your troubles.

Person gets diabetes: Weight gain and obesity, especially from overeating sugars and carbohydrates, can lead to "insulin resistance" disorder. The person's pancreas then has to work super hard to make enough insulin. The pancreas eventually burns out and cannot make enough Insulin . . . At which time the blood sugar will get so high that it spills through the kidneys and into the urine. He has diabetes now.
