Dettol soap on face : Dettol soap is not formulated for use on the face, although like you, a lot of people use it for facial cleansing. It may have caused inflammation and subsequent drying and post- inflammatory hypopigmentation. I would stop using the soap and opt for a milder facial cleanser appropriate for your skin type & skin concerns. Also use a moisturizer to help restore hydration to your skin. Add spf in am.

I'm not aware of any: Studies on point. The active ingredient in dettol, chloroxylenol (4-chloro, 3, 5 dimethylphenol), has been around a long time & has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Being insoluble in water, dettol is instead alcohol/pine oil based, and is used as an antiseptic and a cleaner. Dermatitis & possibly inhalation toxicity have been reported.  At typical exposures, cancer seems highly unlikely.

Chemical burn: Dettol is just a brand name - not sure which liquid it was, a topical body wash or a stronger disinfectant for the household. Regardless, it sounds like he has a chemical burn of the skin in the area you describe. Flush area hourly with clear, cool water. Make sure he is able to urinate ok. If skin starts to break down, peel, smell or drainage, then needs to see doctor immediately for burn care.

Commonest cause: Of alopecia, the fancy name for their falling out, is poor diet resulting in vitamin deficiency.

Accepted Answer

No: Dettol contains a toxic agent. It is an anti-septic. The bore water may contain pesticides and  other pollutants that are toxic not necessarily bacteria or other micro-organiisms. Best not to bathe in bore water that is causing hair loss.

See a dermatologist: Consider a staph infection or an allergy to something used on it. Dettol is probably not a factor. A common cause for this is bacitracin or neosporin allergy.

: It is possible you got a dettol 'burn' . It should heal completely in a couple of weeks.

hi .our dog bit my dad on the hand.went through skin although not very big.he immediately washd with dettol..put antibiotic cream on.he has had an aortic valve replacement 2 years ago so we worry about infection. is a tetinus shot also needed?

Yes if none recently: Most animal &amp; human mouths carry tetanus bacteria so a person who is bitten should definitely get an updated tetanus shot: get one if 5 or mor years since previous one.  But a puncture wound from an animal bite on the hand is also a risk for other bacterial infections, especially in someone with a prosthetic valve, &amp; most Drs would also prescribe antibiotics in this case so a Dr eval is best
