NO: Diverticulosis is the outpouching that occurs on the colon, usually the sigmoid, of first world people. Primarily due to a higher fat, lower fibre diet. Ibs is a non-defined collection of symptoms, where no definitive cause is identified. It's not a  "disease" in the truest sense, and neither is diverticulosis, which is a description of the colon wall. Good luck.

Barium is a laxative: What do you mean by "irritation"? Abdominal pain? Increased output? Blood? Barium, for all its use in imaging, is also a laxative  &amp; often used as an enema. It will force the stool out of the intestines &amp; colon as it makes its way out. Therefore, "irritation" of the colon (depending on how you define it) isn't uncommon after a barium-contrast CT. It shouldn't cause bleeding nor pain, however. TTYD

Maybe: Diverticulitis is an infection that occurs in/around a diverticulum (a weakness or blowout of the wall of the colon), usually treated with antibiotics. This may solve the infection, but it can happen again, as the diverticulum is still there, along with others as well, as they are usually multiple. Preventive measures may help diminish more attacks, but surgery may be necessary to 'cure' !
