i just got my mirena (levonorgestrel) out and was told that during removal it wouldn't hurt. i screamed it hurt so bad! what would cause it to hurt like that? i have a bicornuate uterus.

Cramps.: Your uterine anomaly could certainly explain the unusual pain from iud removal. Preparation with Arthrotec can prevent such discomfort. Cervical manipulation and uterine contractions can cause cramps that should gradually get better and respond to nsaids such as Motrin tylenol (acetaminophen) or aleve.

for 2 weeks i have had a lot of nausea, even thrown up and dry heaved. i've had mirena (levonorgestrel) for 1 year but also have a bicornuate uterus. what is the cause?

See a Provider: It would be unusual to be pregnant with a mirena, (levonorgestrel) but not impossible.  In any case, you need to see a provider and get checked out as soon as possible.

Possibly: A bicornuate uterus, is a partially split uterus that has formed in the shape of a heart, with two “horns” or areas at the top of the uterus. Like any abnormality in the shape of the uterus, bicornuate uterus can cause dysmenorrhea.  More importantly, bicornuate uterus can  cause recurrent pregnancy loss, preterm delivery, or fetal growth retardation, but successful term pregnancy is possible.

Embryologic variatio: Formation of organ systems of the embryo complete by end of third month; at a critical point, male or female sex organs differentiate. The mullerian ducts will resorb entirely in the male, and form the uterus in female. But top of these ducts may not fuse and become double-headed (bicorneate). In young women this is often not  known until pregnant, and they would be considered high risk for probs.

Clarification: See your doctor to go over the test results to get clarification. It is unclear here if your doctor was testing IgG and IgA as part of an antiphospholipid antibody workup for miscarriage or if you are referring to the genetic disorder of the immune system referred to as IgA deficiency. The impact on pregnancy depends on the diagnosis.

Abnormalities: These are both birth defects of the uterus which fertility specialists see commonly. A bicornuate uterus is shaped mickey mouse's head and a septate uterus has strand of tissue dividing the cavity into 2 parts. Your gyn may want to do an evaluation or refer you to a specialist since these conditions can sometimes (not always) affect pregnancies in the future.
