Related: Most eye infections are due to viral illnesses called uri. These are colds. Calls can exacerbate sinusitis and sinusitis is a common cause of headaches. So it follows, that what appears to be in i infection causing a headache is all part of the same called or uri.

Possibly: I definitely don't think you get lumps in your neck or eye infections from stress. I think we would most usually expect a palpable/"feel able" lymph node from an eye infection to be behind the ear but the neck is not that far away! Perhaps there was some low grade infection near your eye as well. If all improving, OK to watch; if lymph node enlargement persists 3-4 weeks, see Doc. Stay well!

Unlikely: Eye infections are typically self contained and the majority will resolve on their own within 2 weeks.  They will not cause dementia: however, dementia can predispose to eye infections secondary to poor blinking which fails to clear the tear film.

Post nasal drip: The quick answer is no, but i think you have eye and nasal allergies, not infection and the nasal allergies can cause a drip. An allergist will help.

NO: The tears may make your eyes feel irritated and turn red but crying itself introduces no bacteria, fungi or viruses.  But chronic anxiety or depression may suppress your immune system and result in an outbreak of herpes simplex or zoster around the eye.

Yes: Cold can, especially cold caused by adenovirus well known to cause conjunctivitis.

Accepted Answer

When it's caused...: ...By a sinus infection and there's redness and swelling around the eye, that's called periorbital  or preseptal cellulitis.  When there is no or minimal swelling, but there is redness and pain and maybe discharge, that's pinkeye.  Note that you can have both at once,  that periorbital cellulitis can happen without a sinus infection, and sometimes it can be hard to distinguish which came first.

See doctor: If you have had discharge or redness for more than 2 days, see a doctor.  In the meantime, try some warm compresses three times a day for 10 minutes each to the closed eyelids.
