Yes: One of the side effects of NSAIDS--which advil (ibuprofen) is of that class, is GI bleeding secondary to ulcers.

15 advil (ibuprofen) per day is 3000 mg of IB--which is a LARGE AMT

why are you taking that much???

Please make an apt with your DR to address the possible ulcer and just as importantly--to address the problem which you are taking the advil (ibuprofen) for.

Advil (ibuprofen): Too much Advil (ibuprofen)  can cause exacerbation of ulcers and worsen the crowns. Stop the advil (ibuprofen) and see your doctor as soon as possible. Good luck.

NSAID Side effects : Nsaid's are relatively safe when used short term  & when there are no underlying contraindications. Side effects may be encountered in short term use, but tend to be more worrisome in the long-term. Gi toxicity, fluid-retention, hypertension, heart, kidney & liver damage, etc. Have all been linked to prolonged nsaid's. Rebound headaches can be seen after a week or 2. Treat the cause, not symptoms.

how do people get irritation/ulcers from nsaids in spite of taking omeprazole along with it which clearly halts the acid production to prevent damage of lining. is it because that advil causes direct injury/erosions to lining without involving acid?

i'm being treated for a possible ulcer since april. pain gone immediately after adding prilosec to zantac (ranitidine). now i want advil for pain is it ok to take?

Tylenol (acetaminophen) better: if you indeed have/had an ulcer, you should try to stay away from NSAIDS. why not get an endoscopy and see what's really going on?

Ulcer : Advil overuse can cause an ulcer,. Please see a doctor. You may be partially treating an ulcer that may be bleeding. It may need to be seen by an upper endoscopy

All of the above: All NSAIDS ( Advil, Aleve, aspirin and generic equivalents) are ulcerogenic; howverver, many gastric and peptic ulcers are caused by the bacteria, H. pylori. Best to get tested if symtomatic. Excellent mediciations such as Prilosec ( omperazole)  and Nexium. Zegeri are PPIs ( proton pump inhibitors) will suppress acid production.

Tylenol : Tylenol. The others can worsen ulcers and gastritis. But the generic it's cheaper and just as good.

my mom 71 y/o had a stomach ulcer 10 year ago , never bothered her again, the thing is she have a backache and i want to know if she can take advil or aleve?

: I would try to avoid nsaid meds like advil&amp;Aleve and take acetaminophen (Tylenol). Stomach ulcers are serious disorders.   If it's not an injury, apply hot moist pack 20  minutes or alternate hot&amp; cold packs 4 times a day. For a strain muscle relaxant should help. Prescription for lidoderm patches are effective. Have her see  an MD if not improving.
