No: Overuse it and your skin will get irritated. It's a great over-the-counter Rx for acne especially if there are comedones. If it doesn't clear you in two weeks, your personal physicain can help you out by adding prescription-strength Rx.

It could be keratosis pylaris a common skin condition without complications. There are other causes, but it has to be visualized to diagnose

: not really, but it can cause some irritation which may redden your skin and subsequently cause a bit of hyperpigmentation when the redness goes away. See your dermatologist if this problems worsens.....and if you are treating your acne on your own.

Qualified yes: Differin (adapalene) can make you more sensitive to the sun.  So if differin (adapalene) is increasing sensitivity to sunlight or causing irritation it is possible that the skin color can darken.  Use sunscreen/avoid the sun.  Darkening is more prominent in darker baseline skin colors.

Gel vs cream: In general, gels of medicine are more potent than creams due to the "vehicle" they are in. "vehicle" in this instance means all other things that make up the non-medicine part of the total cream, lotion or gel. Because gels are thicker than creams, they hold the medicine to the skin more tightly and deliver more of the medicine to a particular area. If creams feel clogging,it may be the "Vehicle".
