Baclofen? Doubt it: I've never prescribed Baclofen for RLS. I'm sure someone has but none of my colleagues have. Problem is we don't know what causes RLS but we don't believe it is due to muscle spasms which is what baclofen would treat.  We believe it's more along the lines of some type of neuropathy. From the brain, the legs, a sleep disorder? Iron may have some effect in iron deficient people but otherwise NOT.

: Yes. People with either syndrome should be tested for iron deficiency and anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is especially common in women. Good luck.

See below: If you have an urge to move your legs due to "creepy, "crawling, " discomfort, or aching feeling especially at night that gets better with movement and worse at rest than it may have restless legs syndrome (rls). Rls can be due to many secondary causes or be a syndrome on its own. It is best to seek advice of a fellowship trained sleep medicine specialist who can help make that diagnosis.

i have restless leg syndrome at night and am concerned it has to do with poor circulation, and does this mean my heart is at risk? and i have been told before i have low iron. could this contribute? am i anemic

Need Dr evaluation : Restless legs syndrome (RLS) can have several causes, one of which is anemia , so a blood count &amp; other basic lab work can help determine that.   Circulation problems could also cause the symptoms, so a thorough Dr history &amp; physical exam is best place to begin 
   Exercise helps most people with RLS, though some need medication if no underlying cause found

Any: Any over the counter iron supplement should work. Try 1 and see how your stomach tolerates it.

Accepted Answer

Depends: Most docs continue prenatal vitamins if you are breastfeeding &amp; these usually contain iron. I would not add anything more to the mix unless you clear it with your doc. Iron sulfate is a common OTC iron supplement.

how bad does iron def anemia have to be before it causes heart problems? my hemo is 11 (116) and iron is 8. have chest pain and sob and low bp and dizzyness and restless legs. so sick slways!

Much lower than that: A hemoglobin of 11 is only mildly reduced. Anemia itself will not cause cardiac or more likely issues with oxygen transport until it is much lower. Exactly how low depends on whether there are pre existing cardiovascular issues.

Restless Leg: Rls can be due to low iron showing ferritin level less than 50. It can cause insomnia, also makes people nervous. 
Please see a sleep doctor.

rbc 4.89 - hemoglobin 13.5 - hematocrit 40.6% - iron 26 ug/dl - tibc 348 - iron saturation 7% 43 y/o female extreme fatigue arms and legs feel heavy sometimes presyncope symptoms. pcp scheduled iron infusion next week. could this all be from low iron?

: Your hemoglobin is not low enough for you to have any symptoms from iron deficiency. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless in case your symptoms are due to dehydration.

Arthritis: Painful arthritis can be treated many ways.  In mild to moderate cases, people can find relief using oral anti inflammatories, topical pain relievers, injection therapy, rest, ice, and physical therapy.  More severe cases may have to be treated with surgical intervention.
