Virginity is in no way defined by the hymen, which is a mucus membrane that closes off the vagina. It can be broken during childhood by exercising, falling, tampon use, etc. but it is most often referred to when defining virginity. Some women do break their hymen during sex, but many break it long before. 
When the hymen breaks, there is blood. It may seem like a lot, but it really isn't much at all. This no way defines virginity. 
The only way to lose your virginity is to have penetrative intercourse.
