i usually take ativan prn (need basis) but my doc wants to swtich me to xanax (alprazolam) prn is 24 hours in between taking an ativan and taking a xanax (alprazolam) ok?

It takes 3- 4 days: for the ativan (lorazepam) totally eliminated from your system because the half life of ativan (lorazepam) is 12-16 hours.

I'd let doc choose: I understand your problem and the rationale you're using to get there.  But I think it would be a better option to allow the doc to make their own choice if in fact, he/she knows your case well.  There could be better medication available to do what you need taking into consideration your specific other medical conditions, etc.  Good luck.

Go to the ER: Why did you take 5 ativan (lorazepam). Doctor will help you deal with adverse effects as well manage precipitating factor. More over you may be having altered mental status that coulff lapse to coma.

on ativan 2-4mg for about a month and a half. asked to taper and doctor gave 60 1mg tablets. is this enough to taper off safely? need taper schedule.

Doctor supervision: Tapering Ativan should be individualized, carefully monitored by prescribing physician and flexible if underlying symptoms or signs of withdrawal occur. Don't have enough information about your medical/psych history to determine a taper schedule. Ativan is given for different reasons, anxiety being one. Contact prescribing doc to discuss your need for tapering supervision. I hope this helps.

Overusing a drug: Yes. It is addictive behavior to take this drug daily and then to take it several times per day.  This drug is numbing you up.  It is a sedative. It is not treatment or prevention or a cure for Anxiety.  The drug should be used extremely sparingly given it's significant risk of causing addiction.

my doctor has prescribed 4mg ativan, 7.5mg zopiclone and 20mg celexa (citalopram) daily. i think this is too much and i should stop taking them. what do you think?

Do not stop them: Explain your concerns to your doctor. These medications should never be stopped without psychiatric supervision. Get into psychotherapy with cbt for your anxiety and depression. Medications need to be individualized. I have plenty of patients on similar regimens. The right dose is the dose that works for you without causing too much sedation or intolerable side effects.Best wishes.

how long after taking sertraline 50mg (generic zoloft) can i take ativan (lorazepam) (1mg) if i need it? doc prescribed the ativan (lorazepam) to take as needed up to 3/day

When needed: Zoloft (sertraline) is an SSRI and can take up to two weeks to reach maximum benefit in your system. The ativan will work in minutes. OK to take as needed until you get two weeks out and you should have less need for it.

i was on ativan 1mg everyday, twice a day for a month. i just stopped taking it b/c doc said i could. how long will retch drawl synptoms last? i don't feel like myself and haven't since i stopped. my doc wants to put me on zoloft (sertraline) now

Zoloft (sertraline)?: Zoloft (sertraline)  is a good medication for anxiety and depression and is not habit forming , but u need to take it daily if u want it to work and it can take  4 -6 weeks  to show  its benefit.

i have been having vertigo symptoms while taking ativan (lorazepam). is this normal? i have had blood work done and have visited a doctor and everything is normal

Common isn't normal: Dizziness is a fairly common side effect of Ativan (lorazepam) so it may be what's happening. It's good that the tests/exam found you physically okay. Discuss this with Dr and if it's not minimal, perhaps try CBT therapy instead of a pill or to lower dose and shorten need.
