i went to the doctor on tuesday, 02 january due to what seems like gastro which started on friday, 29 december. is it ok that i am still ill?

Not unusual: Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are the main symptoms of a viral intestinal tract infection or mild food poisoning. Treatment consists of rest, intake of adequate room temperature fluids,light bland diet with no roughage, taking Tylenol as needed and kaopectate for diarrhea control. my 15yr old son has had gastro twice in 2weeks .. is this normal . i have taken him to the doctor and they said he is fine ?

Possibly: Most stomach viruses take 1-2 weeks to resolve. Instead of having 2 separate infections, it's possible he got back on a regular diet too quickly and flared up his symptoms again. This can happen when someone starts milk or spicy foods too soon. If he continues to have vomiting, diarrhea (watery stool &gt;4-5/day), or fever he may need further evaluation.

i have recently found out i have gastro cancer and i'm in soooo much pain my doc hasn't really gave me any info or meds to help....what can i take ?

Pain meds: You could start with Acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but it sounds like you might need something stronger.  Please contact your physician for pain evaluation and prescription for pain meds.

Bowel movements: As long as you are being compulsive, why don't you keep a list of your bowel movements, including frequency, color and consistency?  This can be helpful when you have your appointment with the gastroenterologist.

hi my baby is 4 months old. she got gastro 2 days ago. had her at the doc she is slowly getting better. but it seems last night i got it quite badly. how do i prevent her from getting sick all over again?

Unlikely recurs: At 4 months old,  she has a functioning immune system that is still producing protective antibodies that will help greatly in preventing her from getting this again. In addition. wash your hands frequently. especially when feeding her and preparing her food. Clean hands with soap and water any and every time you use the bathroom. No kissing her anywhere on the face. Wash common surfaces frequently

what is the difference between an internist doctor and a gastro-enterologist?

Difference: An internal medicine specialist can evaluate many aspects of a person's conditions such as heart, lungs, blood pressure, kidneys, etc. A gastroenterologist will have internal medicine training and additional specialty training in intestinal and liver disorders and perform endoscopy procedures too.

us it okay to take dicyclomine 10mg if your also on 12.5mg of atenolol. both were prescribed by different doctors. gastro has my history of drugs.

Virus: Gastroenteritis is usually caused by a virus and usually is self limiting treated with diet and kaopectate
 or Imodium (loperamide) if needed. Some cases are caused by food poisoning and they are also managed the same way unless they are due to certain bacteria which require antibiotics.
