Usually, but of course not always the surgeons are called after a different doctor makes a diagnosis and needs the patient to have an operation, as in colon cancer, trauma, fistulas, bad infections, many others.

Prep for colorectal: If you are referring to an office visit with a colon &amp; rectal surgeon, no prep is usually preferred unless the office specifically told you to take an enema prior to the visit. Most Colon &amp; rectal surgeons would rather no prep as they gain alot of information on a patient in the unpreppred state. If you are referring to prepation of your colon prior to colonoscopy, your doc should have specified.

Probably: Typically recommended at age 50 unless other risk factors suggest you need it sooner; most pts get a colonoscopy...You will be asleep when they look up your backside...You do a 'prep' the night before...You'll want to be near bathroom!  but it isn't bad.

Anal fissure: Anal fissures are essentially cracks in the lining of the anal canal that develop due to trauma, most commonly passage of dry hard stool. It is definitely treatable. Many topical medications have been tried with varying success rates. A short surgical procedure called tailored lateral internal sphincerotomy has the best success rates.
