OCP effectiveness: Certain meds can make ocps less effective.  These include: antibiotics, seizure meds, some HIV meds, and st. John's wart.  For women on ocps and taking certain antibiotics, i like to recommend a barrier method of contraception while they're taking the medicine.

Preconception Care: I recommend that prior to stopping contraception, you consult your ob/gyn physician.  Preconception counseling and planning is critical to evaluating you for risks of complications and taking proactive steps to reduce those risks.  Once this evaluation is completed and you are educated, prenatal vitamins are often started and they can reduce risk as well.
