About 7 hours apart: For oral antibiotics, 3 times a day usually means about 7 to 8 hours apart. An example would be 7:00am, 2:00pm, and 9:00pm.

antibiotics every 6 hours. i take it at 2am 2pm and than at 8am 8pm. due to the time change when should i take it?

Not to worry: If you fall back one hour.The med will still work fine plus or minus 1 hr.

if i have chronic bronchitis, should i take antibiotics every time it flares up?

Accepted Answer

No: Many times bronchitis has a viral etiology.  In fact in the first 5-7 days of illness you are much more likely to have a viral infection than a bacterial infection.  I encourage my patients to try and wait for a week before starting antibiotics.  However, you still may need medications to control symptoms such as nasal drainage and cough.

i have no clear bacteria in my urine, but every time i take antibiotics, my frequency symptoms disappear. then re-appears. why?

Other cause: See an urologist for possible interstitial cystitis. Over the counter urinary analgesic (pain reliever) may help.

Accepted Answer

No: It's not uncommon for your surgeon to recommend antibiotics prior to dental cleanings for the first two years after a total joint.  Antibiotics are not necessary after a typical cut.

i was prescribed cipro and trimethoprim at the same time. for uti. never beed prescribed 2 antibiotics at the same time. each to be taken 1 pill every 12 hours. is it normal practice? can i even take them together or its some kind of mistake?

:  It is unusual.  yes you can take them together. This can occur if there are two different type of organisms grown in your urine each  sensitive to a different antibiotic. The best person to ask is your prescriber. Suggest you see a Urologist next time

my mom have hypertension so dentist is afraid to pull her tooth that always ache.is it ok that she always take antibiotics every time her tooth swell?

..BP controlled asap: 36 y/o Female says My mom has hypertension so dentist is afraid to pull her tooth that always ache. is it ok that she always take antibiotics every time her tooth swells? If BP is high she needs to see her PCP to get it Controlled asap. Tooth Pain can also contribute to the high Blood Pressure. No overuse of antibiotics is not recommended.

every time i take liquid pepto i vomit. currently on antibiotic (metro) for tooth infection - super nauseated. what can i take? disallowed emetrol.

Accepted Answer

Conflict: Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) can deactivate antibiotic.  Report its use to the Dentist that prescribed the antibiotic.  Antibiotic will not cure dental infection but will reduce its severity until you run out of pills, then infection worsens again.  You need Root Canal treatment or Extraction.  Call your Dentist for support.

i used to get bladder infections almost every time after sex so i went to the doctor to ask what i can do to prevent them he gave me macrobid to take right before sex every time and it works well however i really want to get off antibiotics and try someth

If it ain't broke: This is a very effective treatment for reccurent uti's in women . I have used this same treatment for my patients for years when other treatments have not worked including douching(worse), cranberry juice and pills, etc. Why stop something that is easy,  works and has almost no side effects.

have perforated eardrum in healing and has a clot on it. since diagnosed ive take oral and ear drop antibiotics and oral steroid. i have taken nsaids for swelling every 8 hrs and if i dnt it swells back up and ear is itchy at times, is this normal?

: Yes, itching is normal in the healing process.
