scratched by a cat 16 days ago, cat was fine for 4 days then she disappeared. i had 3 rabies shots 13 years ago and one rabies shot around 22 months ago. how many shots should i get now? (pakistan)

See below: Per usa's cdc recs, after receiving the primary 4 dose set of vaccinations, persons in the continuous risk category should be tested every 6 months and persons in the frequent risk category should be tested every 2 years and if the titer falls below a value of at least complete neutralization at a 1:5 dilution by rapid fluor focus inhib test, they should receive a booster.  So, no perm resistance.

Minimal: The current tissue culture derived Rabies Vaccine is quite well tolerated. The followup doses can be called boosters but are all part of the primary series.

is it possible to acquired rabies virus in dogs barking and it happens to entered my mouth?and if does, i got already my shot a month ago, do i still need to get another shot?

: Rabies is acquired usually from the bite of a rabid animal or from animal saliva getting on a minor cut or scratch.  There are very very rare reports of transmission to people who were in the vicinity of a rabid animal but never physically touched.  So, possibly yes.

Given near 100% fatality rate of infection, I’d urge you get full series, regardless how low the theoretical risk

: No need for revaccination because  you did not have any direct close contact with bat.  Transmission of the virus requires a break in the skin by the teeth of rabid animal or contamination of scratches, abrasions, or mucous membranes with saliva of rabid animal.

Hard to say: Most local health departments keep track of the local rabies activity monitored by state labs. Domesticated pets are seldom a risk, but if there is rabies in the region and the cat can get outside, exposure can occur.If properly vaccinated, risk would be low. So there are specific points of missing information that limit my response. Infection/tetanus is a primary risk.You should call your doc.

Rabies shots protect: The good news is you will be protected since you did not YET have symptoms of rabies. Of course getting seen and treated is usually better, but since you did not develop rabies, there was still time... rabies has a VARIABLE incubation time- which is some cases is quite long (months). You don't want to be an unlucky case that could be a week or 2. I believe you 'made it though' and you will be fine

No: You are considered safe from rabies exposure within the 2 years after completing the primary series.After 2 years they encourage those with high risk to have antibody levels checked or get a booster.

Yes: Bats are high risk for rabies. Rabies coverage is recommended. Check the cdc.gov website. All the best.

Accepted Answer

No: It takes weeks for the virus to make it to the brain of the host ( in your case would be your cat) and then to pass to the salivary glands so that it can get further inoculated. Not to mention that your cat is already vaccinated. Ultimately, not all stray cats carry rabies and rabies cases are tightly tracked by public health agencies.
