Yes: With rare exceptions, i recommend a rectal exam with the pelvic exam.  It allows the doctor to feel behind the uterus making it easier to detect ovarian cysts or nodularity of endometriosis,  in women over 40, it provides an exam of the rectum which can show occult polyps or even cancers.  I feel the rectal exam adds to the completeness of the pelvic exam allowing a true clean bill of health.

had hard stool used finger to help get it out. small amount of brown mucous with tiny pink mixed. some burning on/off for a month. colonoscopy 6.5years ago digital rectal exam 2 months ago&hemoccult. abd/pelvic ct 4months ago- all normal concerning?

: You really need to have your constipation treated. There are treatments a GI doctor could prescribe for you to make it much easier for you to have a bowel movement. So, see your GI doctor for constipation treatment. In the mean time, staying well hydrated is imperative. Good luck!

Its quick: You and your doctor will chat about why you are there.   If an exam is needed, a small speculum is inserted into the vagina.  Swabs of the cervix and other samples will be taken.  Your doc may need to insert a gloved finger to check the uterus and ovaries.  Its very quick and you are done.  Best wishes!

: Inform your GYN physician about your question, and he/she will explain the details of a pelvic exam.  It may be necessary for this kind of exam to obtain an accurate pap smear of your cervix, and it is not possible for this to be accomplished accurately by yourself.

Abnormalities: The doctor will check for 1) vulva problems like herpes of thinning of the vulva,  2) vaginal problems like discharge due to yeast or bv, 3) cervical problems like precancer, cancer, or chlamydia, 4) uterine problems like fibroids, 5) tube and ovary problems like cancer, cysts or tenderness.  These are only a few of the many things the doctor is looking out for during your exam.

See below: A simple pelvic exam can not diagnose an infection. Your doctor would have to do a culture. If you are concerned see a doctor.

Not likely :/: It sounds like you have genital sores and have a history of unprotected sex, and that genital herpes was diagnosed at your last pelvic exam. While can happen, it sounds much more likely that your hope for misdiagnosis is wishful thinking :/ maybe this is a good time to go back into your OB, let her have another look, and review some genital herpes  treatment options with you.

: Yes any competent MD/Gyn  should not miss Ca cervix, specially advanced. So relax .

?: What symptoms do you have?  A papa exam screens for cervical cancer. You would need different testing. Best to see your doctor and talk to her about your concerns first
