Yes: If the cervix was left in place (a supracervical hysterectomy) you can still get vaginal bleeding with each cycle.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Partial hysterectomy, or supracervical  hysterectomy, refers to the removal of the uterus but leaving the cervix. Because the cervix can have some endometrial tissue which produces the tissue that is shed as a period, you could have light bleeding when you would normally have a period. It is usually so light a panty liner is more than enough.

Maybe: It is certainly a way to end the problem. Some can reduce the burden with a proper selection of NSAIDS (pain med) taken when cycles are expected. Oral contraceptives can sometimes also help. In the long run, it would be best to consider the pros and cons in a discussion with a gynecologist and make your own decision.

is it possible to get some eggs  before having total hysterectomy?  my wife is suppose to have it in 3 weeks and she already missed her last period.

Possible....: But it is unlikely that you could find a specialist that would be able to harvest eggs in that short of a time period.  If you are serious about wanting to harvest eggs, you may have to consider pushing back the hysterectomy.

Manage hormones: Even with removal of the uterus, your ovaries will continue the monthly cycle of hormone production, and you may still feel sick. 26 is too young to make you menopausal by removing the ovaries. Hormonal birth control (pills, Depo shot, Nexplanon insert) may be able to prevent these monthly symptoms. Progesterone alone may be able to help your symptoms. Discuss options with your doctor.

i'm 30 & had a partial hysterectomy almost 2yr ago so i don't get a period but my breasts have been tender and experiencing some itching, any idea why?

Ovulation hormones: Hysterectomy is only removal of the uterus.  The ovaries are left in place and for good reason as they continue to cycle producing female hormones.  Consequently your body will continue to respond such as breast tenderness, pms, etc.  Also it's been shown that preservation of otherwise normal ovaries results in an additional 7-8 years of life in women under 65.

can i get a partial hysterectomy at 18 years old? i have had extreme issues with my period for 7 1/2 years. my bleeding doesn't stop without birth control but i'm not able to take birth control anymore since i have a rare blood clot disorder?

: If the clotting disorder prevents use of oral BCP's (also just progesterone birth control, since clotting is also associated), this described situation may become a choice of which risk to take, or become a reason to justify hysterectomy or an attempt at endometrial ablation as an alternative.  Get a second opinion from a university staff OBGYN before proceeding with either.

i occasionally get gallbladder attacks but they seem to mostly occur when i'm on my period. i do have enormous uterine fibroids for which i'm scheduled to have a hysterectomy, but i'm not sure why my period would impact the passing of the gallstones?

: Menstruation does not have an effect on the passing of gallstones.  Passing a gallstone occurs when the gallbladder contracts, and when a stone exceeds the diameter of the cystic duct (the exit of bile from the gallbladder) , the pain is proportional to the disparity in size b/t the stone and the cystic duct.  Get a second opinion about a hysterectomy, b/c there are other options available.

Partial hysterectomy: Yes depending on which part was taken out. Discuss with your Dr.
