Hearing problems : Turning up the tv, asking people to repeat themselves, unable to hear on the telephone, complaints of friends and relatives. These are the most common reasons people come in to have their hearing checked.

ndrit is almost 5y and can say only 100 words. he uses both hands same. not diagnosed with autism. mentally and physically is ok without hearing problems. plays with children and is very friendly. why isnt he talking yet?

Hard to say: This is something that a developmental pediatrician and/or a speech and language specialist should evaluate. In the US this is routinely done as part of the "Chile Find" program operated by public schools for kids as young as 3.

Hearing loss: Anytime you have a hearing loss you are not hearing words and sounds as well as you could be. You may be asking folks to repeat themselves often or you may find that you have to concentrate more or look at people more than you used to when they are talking to you. Try a dial tone on the phone, does it sound the same in both ears?  See an ear nose and throat doc and they can check it.

i have decreased my hearing function since i have flu, but after the flu ended  the hearing problem still exist, how can i fix it?

Fluid in the ear: You might still have fluid in your middle ear after you had an upper air way infection or flu like symptoms. You need to see an ENT to be evaluated especially when you are still symptomatic. It would takes several months for the fluid to go away by itself and you also have an increase risk of middle ear infection if fluids are there.

7yr old says he doesn't hear me or dad until we are yelling, i could there be a hearing problem or is he so engrossed that he just tunes out?

Yes and yes: He may be hard of hearing or he may be tuning you guys out. It matters whether he is able to hear other sounds without difficulty. Children around this age can also be so engrossed by the task at hand that other stimuli are ignored. 

Schools also have a yearly hearing screen that looks for substantial hearing loss. If you are very worried, an otolaryngology or audiology consultation is indicated.

my sister has a hearing problem. they told her that the nerves are a little damaged. i feel that the things that help her to hear better are harming her more. what should i do?

Get a 2nd opinion: Not sure what you're referring to. More importantly, what's your question? How was it determined that a nerve was a little damaged? And what things are helping her that you're worried about? If you can give us some more details, we may be able to give you a better answer. In meantime, consider getting a 2nd opinion if you're not convinced that she's getting best therapy.

It depends: It depends on the type of the hearing loss and the severity.  Hearing loss can be due to nerve damage and hearing aids often help.  Hearing can be due to problems with the ear drum or ear bones in which often surgery is the answer.  Sometimes both surgery and hearing aids are needed.  See ENT for help.

See specialist: See the ENT MD and take it from there. Many folks do extremely well with the newer hearing aids. Go and see for yourself. Why not let life be better with improved hearing ? Good Luck.

Failure to respond: If your baby is not startling to loud noises, that is a potential sign. Your baby should be turning to localize sounds coming from one direction or the other. Lastly, as your baby gets older, he or she should be babbling and cooing- failure to generate sounds at the appropriate age may be a reason to screen his or her hearing. If you have any doubts, discuss them with your pediatrician.

Hearing loss: The best place to start is with an audio gram and a physical examination by a board certified otolaryngologist.
