GP: That can be normal for his age. His Urologist or GP will have to check the size of the prostate as well to make sure. These results are best discussed with your GP and Urologist.

Possible, but RARE: Why was the test done?  Were you having some symptoms related to the prostate? At 26, prostatitis would be the most likely cause of not only prostate problems but an elevated psa.  Cancer is possible, but extremely unlikely.  If you are not comfortable with your doctor's answer, you should ask again, go see another doctor, or perhaps see a urologist.

Prostate cancer: I believe that the object of your hormone treatment is to deprive your body of male hormones which are harmful for your prostate cancer. Thus, you don't want to raise testosterone levels.  Consult a neurologist or psychiatrist to determine the significance of your memory problem. There are medications if there is evidence of some cognitive impairment. Your oncologist can further advise you.

Headache, swollen: Ankles, skin flushing lassitude, constipation. Less commonly fainting, dizziness, indigestion, rapid heart rate/palpitations, anxiety, urinary frequency, erectile dysfunction, insomnia, swollen joints and visual disturbances. Should not have any effect on psa.

Other hormones: Starting with Bicalutamide at the low dose, or perhaps at the higher (150 mg) dose.  The psa number has never killed anyone. Symptoms are worth the expense of treatment. If you get hi dose casodex, (bicalutamide) you should get nipple XRT to prevent painful gynecomastia. Lots of others antihormones and new products, but they cost a lot, and do not cure or extend life further.

Need follow-up: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, a PSA level of 5.8 does need follow up. Please note that about 75% of the people your husband's age do not have prostate cancer even with elevated PSA.
