Yes,  not from IBS: Ibs does not cause bloody stools.  Bloody stools can be seen with other conditions.  Hemorrhoids can cause bright red blood on toilet paper, or in bowl, but so can rectal cancers.  Blood coated on stool different from blood mixed in stool.  Bloody stools can be seen with infection, inflammation, fragile blood vessels, diverticula (pockets), poor blood flow to bowel, polyps, cancers, etc. C ur doc.

No: Ibs (irritable bowel syndrome) is actually a functional state of the bowel. It should not cause bleeding. Are you thinking about inflammatory bowel conditions?

Abd pain: Should see your doctor as distinguishing one from the other is difficult without an examination.

Iron supplements: The important thing is to test for blood in the stool or check for anemia which would imply that you are losing blood. Otherwise the color of the stool shouldn't worry you. In my experience, iron supplements are the most common cause of black stools without blood.

Not usually in blood: Rectal bleeding is not usually symptom of ibs. Hemorrhoids, anal fissures, ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, diverticular disease, infection , cancer etc. Should consult physician for exam, blood tests, possibly endoscopy and sometimes imaging.

Trying to poop a: Brick by straining caused the blood. It seems like top and bottom approach needed. Fleets enema from below; citrat of magnesis by mouth.  Last try before going to urgent care for manual disempactment no joy for you or provider.  Then solve how you got this way, and how to prevent. Unlikely cancer or ibs. Narcotics cause this. Do not use bisacodyl product (dulcolax) stimulant.

Stool softener: Two products that are over the counter should be used.  The first is the stool softner colace (docusate sodium) taken every day. If an episode of constipation occurs one then uses a fleets enema as needed.
In years past older people with sever constipation went to a clinic for high colonic enemas.  The practice has essentially stopped.

Hypothetically: Until you have had a colonoscopy, and at a minimum rectosigmoid, you have the risk of a bleeding colon mass until proven otherwise.

Sooner is better: Bleeding, except normal menstrual bleeding, is always a cause for concern and you should see your doctor as soon as you can.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

colitis from low blood flow with ulcers, elev herat rate blood in stool and dark urine. is this still ibs?

Accepted Answer

Probably, UC or ER: Colitis untreated can lead to many complications, including colon cancer. I am hoping a colonoscopy with biopsy has already been done. However, there is no rule that there cannot be more than one process going on, although less likely. There could be viral hepatitis causing dark urine or acute nephritic syndrome with tea-colored urine. The pancreatitis and weight loss is scary in someone so young.
