Not necessarily: More than half of sore throats are caused by various viruses that would not benefit from antibiotic treatment, in fact , antibiotics could cause a significant drug rash it it is mono. An urgent care center or clinic can do a simple test for strep germs and treat if it is.Untreated strep can cause a variety of problems and easily passes to your contacts.

It is likely: Most of the time with strep throat there is whitish or yellow exudates, or redness and small red spots on the soft palate, and swollen glands in neck, the only way to confirm is by doing a throat culture or in office quick strep teast.

Throat pain: Hello, if you have significant sore throat -especially if there is swelling of tonsils or lymph nodes in neck - then it would be important to obtain a streph throat test.  Without evaluation, can't tell you if it is streph or not. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day.  Hydrate well.

my lab results on a strep culture group a came back saying: no beta strep group a isolated by bacitracin. what does that mean? do i have strep throat?

No means no: The culture procedure takes a sample of your mucus and spreads it over sheep's blood agar, the food for germ growth. A paper disk infused with bacitracin (antibiotic) is placed on the SBA where a small amount of the abx infuses around the disk. The action of growing germs on the sheep's blood and the prevention of growth near the antibiotic disc define the germs type. Yours was not Strep A.

Post nasal drip: The only way to know you have strep is by taking a throat culture. Chance are you have a post nasal drip tha is giving you your symptoms. Use saline nose drops. For pain relief you can gargle, take ibuprofen, and eat ice creams and popsicles.

Depends: Generally, the fevers with group a streptococcus infections are in the 101-102 degree range.  If you do not have a fever, it seems unlikely, but you could still have an infection.  Be seen and you can be tested.

Empiric antibiotics Also ENT CONSULT The firm external sensation may be a secondary enlarged lymph node. Gerd can also cause similar SX and can respond to ZANTAC OR NEXIUM (esomeprazole).

Have evaluated: You are still be in an age group where untreated strep can produce rheumatic fever a month or so down the road ; make the rest ur life miserable.(; cost a bunch) est.1/200 untreated strep are at risk; ~1/3 sore throats strep, ~1/600 the  risk you take by the numbers.Most urgent care centers or offices can do a quick test ; see if it is strep.
