i have a cold sore and around my mouth itches bad. it is swollen as well. i also have a knot under my chin that hurts. i have a slight fever as well. ?

Oral herpes: This sounds like a fairly severe oral herpes infection, probably your first one, right? Not a reucrrent cold sore?  You should be on an anti-herpes drug by mouth, such as valacyclovir or acyclovir. Discuss with doctor ASAP; treatment must be started early to do any good. Have PCR test for HSV and start Rx even if the diagnosis isn't certain; if not herpes, it won't do any harm. Good luck!

i had a cold sore on my lip put some campho-phenique on it and now i have little red bumps all over my chin lips and they break open and bleed or crust over with pus if i rub it because it is sore and itches woke up today and my lip and chin is swollen?

Progression of sore: Either there is continued progression of the cold sore, or your skin was burned by the camphor.  Now it's best to see your doctor to straighten this out and get proper treatment.

: It is extremely rare that you get HSV-2 from oral sex. HSV-1 can cause genital lesions but uncommon. Itching is not a typical symptom of herpes infection.

: Probably your husband is at risk of catching your HSV1 infection, but not the children. On the other hand, having  lived with you for a long time, with lots of other kissing exposures, there's a good chance he is already infected anyway and cannot catch it again.

Not true: Varicella ( chicken pox ) is in the herpesvirus family, but it is not herpes simplex virus type one. Two different viruses. You have to test for varicella-zoster virus to check for immunity to chicken pox.

Lemon balm/ ice: Melissa officinalis or lemon balm (cream) has been shown in european studies to help expedite healing of cold sores. Try ice as well.

Herpes simplex: That is possible, although the likelihood is that they already had it from prior exposure. Many people who get this virus from contact with others do so without developing any symptoms. Most children get it between 3mos and 3yrs of age and by age 60 somewhere between 65 and 85% of people are infected. You do not need cold sores to be shedding the virus and infecting others.
