my baby doesn't burp sometimes after breastfeeding, he is 1 week old, is it normal?

Could be: Depending on how your baby is being fed will depend on how much they burp. A breast fed baby does not tend to swallow much air when eating and may not burp as much. A bottle fed baby may swallow more air and burp more. If your child is spitting up a lot after feeding, this may be a sign that he/she needs to be burped more as well.

See below:: 1.Hold baby with chest & tummy against your shoulder and with one hand supporting his bottom while the other rhythmically pats his back. Place a burping cloth or towel on your shoulder. 2. Place infant  tummy down across your lap anf pat. 3, burp baby while he is sitting up on your leg leaning forward with your hand under his chin for support while the other hand pats him on the back.

after feeding the baby (breastfeeding to be specific) and you make the baby burp, is that enough to get rid of the gas, because our daughter seems to be struggling with gassing. is it not or should we consult asap.

Burping: Burping is controversial. With the gas comes up stomach contents. Babies can process gas. Burping may not happen for every baby and a baby may be more comfortable not burped. All the best.

Infant feeding: Newborn infants will drink too rapidly during feedings, creating "swallowed air" which causes regurgitation ("vomiting").  Disengage your baby from the breast after one or two minutes, "burp" her gently, and then continue nursing.  The infant will be more "full" and not swallow so much air, which will diminish her regurgitation.

Hard belly: If the baby is eating well, gaining weight, and having normal regular bowel movements, it is probably normal.  If any other abnormality, see a pediatrician.

: This is safe to the baby and will not effect lactation, and the best way to protect your baby is for you and anyone else in contact with the baby to be up to date on their vaccinations. There may actually be a direct benefit to the baby since antibodies you make in response to the vaccine can be passed through to the baby in the breast milk.
