for a possible diangosis of some form of acid reflux, why would an antihistamine such as hydroxyzine hcl be rx'ed?

Not option 1 or 2: One of the 1st choices often used are a class of medications that block a specific histamine receptor found in the stomach (H2, end in -itidine or -otidine, for example). Hydroxyzine is a non specific histamine receptor blocker, so it will work in the stomach as well as other places. But it is rarely used for this reason because of its other affects. There must be something specific to this case.

have chronic post nasal drip past few weeks i think due to seasonal allergies. using saline irrigation at night. avoiding decongestants & antihistamines due to dry eye. now have acid reflux. related? how to fix?  suggestions?

Possibly: Use nasal saline irrigation to reduce post nasal drip, regardless of cause. Treat GERD, avoid spicy foods, eating or sleeping supine, prop pillows. Drink fluids. If the nasal congestion persists, add an over the counter nasal steroid and follow up with ENT. Watch for cough, avoid smoke and seasonal allergens.

i have gerd, and currently taking doxycycline heclate 100mgxday. my heartburn is even worse right now, while taking dexilant. i feel short of breathe, which is a ket symptom for me when acid reflux is a problem. does doxy cause acid reflux?

: Doxy can directly irritate the esophagus, cause inflammation or even ulcerate the esophagus. It can cause heartburn and upset stomach. Try taking it with a full glass.of water after taking a liquid antacid recommended by your pharmacist and/or just after a meal.
