Abx and thirst: That is an interesting quesiton.  I have not known of abx to cause increased thirst.  Have never had patients tell me this.  Makes me wonder if something else is going on.  Have you been screened for diabetes?  Might want to discuss this quesiton with your healthcare provider.

Probably: There are most likely some antibiotics that when taken, can make an individual thirsty.  Check the side effect pamphlet that is included in every antibiotic prescription.

Possibly infection: If you are having headaches and feel thirsty in setting of a known infection, you may be dehydrated and need to work on your fluid intake.  However, continued infection with organisms that may be resistant to the antibiotic that you were prescribed can also result in such symptoms.  It is important to make sure that the medication you are on is suitable to treat the UTI.  Talk to your doctor.

Probably not...: Drinking moderate amount of water more likely fills the stomach up and indirectly causes a decrease in appetite and probably the reason why you are losing some weight.

It depends: Antibiotics can cause dry mucous membranes however so can some of the other meds you take.  Unless your doc feels you need to be on some type of chronic suppressive treatment then I would not advise you to continue antibiotics to effect your weight loss.  Discuss weight loss regimes with your provider.

Probably not: Drinking extra water will either make you gain weight, if for some reason you aren't removing it all by peeing, or more likely, in people with normal kidneys, will result in neither weight loss nor gain. If you have been eating less from the infection, that could account for the weight loss, or there could be something more concerning going on. YConsult with your physician if it continues.

You : You could be pregnant. Some antibiotics can make some types of birth control pills less effective. Additionally you indicated that you had unprotected sex. Common signs of pregnancy can include: tenderness of breasts to include nipples; breast enlargement; lack of a period, feeling tired; nausea; mild cramping; having to urinate more often, food cravings and sometimes insomnia. You did not mention if your period is late? If your period is late; take a pregnancy test. Good luck.

Here are some...: A 'sudden" something to our body, understandably, results from sudden impact to nerve system - notably sympathetic, at fear/fright/flight chain, or drug effect (alcohol, anticholinergics, antidepressants, antihistamins, etc.), or brisk water loss (poor-controlled diabetes, vigorous exercise /perspiration, high-output kidney failure, etc.). So, screen these possibilities and ask Doc timely. Best...
