Diarrhea: Diarrhea can be from foods, medications, infections (bacteria, parasites, viruses), functional disorders to name a few etiologies.  It is important to know the exact etiology of the diarrhea before treating.  Only in some cases of bacterial diarrhea do we treat with antibiotics because it may make the person more ill or cause a chronic carrier state.  Best if &gt;3 days of diarrhea to see your doc.

See below: All oral antibiotics (and IV too) can kill good and bad bacteria in the gut as a side effect as they are in the body and thus change the environment in the gut which can cause loose stools and diarrhea.  Replacement of good bacteria (probiotics) can help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Increased stooling: There are many causes of increased stooling. It is possible the antibiotic changed her bowel flora and is responsible. Continue to monitor her stools and focus on extra fluids, particularly those containing electrolytes. It may be as simple as a change in her diet. If the frequency increases or there is blood in her stool see her doctor.

Many variables: It could be related to the antibiotics as they may have changed the homeostasis of the GI tract.  Color may be related to color of foods eaten recently

Diarrhea : I need more information.  Did her doctor request a stool culture?  If that was done &amp; it showed bacterial infection then you are on the right track. Modifying  her diet and  keeping her hydrated  is very important.  I hope she gets better soon.

2yo has bronchitis. no imprvment with antibiotics after 6 days (different antibiotics prescribed after day 3 b/o no improvement). he is either asleep or lethargic. painful cough, noisy chest. poops 6 x a day. should i go back to the doctor a 3rd time?

Some basics: Bronchitis is most often triggered by upper respiratory viruses that no antibiotic would kill. Sometimes a doc will use them to reduce chances of a secondary infection by bacteria but this is controversial. As long as the kid can take enough fluid to stay hydrated (pee every 6-8 hrs) , plays some &amp; interacts with you he is stable. If his condition spooks you or he is not drinking, go in.

Not a problem: The color of the stool is influenced by the dark green bile added to the poo in transit.It changes through greens to yellow then brown if the gut germs have enough time to change it.Yellow just means po is moving through faster.Likely an abx effect.You can feed the kid some probiotic yoghurt and see it return to what you expect sooner, but it will gradually return to normal.

Not important: Oral antibiotics are absorbed in the small intestine.  The timing of bowel movements after taking any oral medications is not important and will not affect the efficacy of the medication.

Possibly: Green stools are usually due to bile--from the gallbladder--which has traveled too fast through the intestines to be broken down. Antibiotics will alter the bacteria that normally live in the gut and may speed up how fast stools pass through as well--so the "undigested" bile may give stools a green color.

Probiotics: You can give him yoghurt with active cultures to help with the runny stool.  The active cultures have beneficial bacteria that can replace the beneficial bacteria lost in the gut due to taking antibiotics.
