The next step is to see a medical provider and have an MRI performed on the knee including the distal femur to evaluate the cyst and knee joint in more detail.

Not life threatening: Not serious in the form of being life threatening.  The bone island is likely an incidental finding.  A bakers cyst in an adult is usually related to an underlying internal derangement of the knee, such as the meniscal tear you are describing.  If you are having trouble it is reasonably simple to take care of both arthroscopically.  Don't hesitate to be seen.

26, knee oa -  meniscus tear/ scope surgery 10 yrs ago - was ncaa athlete. drs say distal femoral osteotomy. can i improve my alignment w/ pt instead of surgery? now low impact lifestyle and no pain

Somewhat: Yes, i would maximize physical therapy and an "unloader" knee brace, customized for your misalignment. This brace provides some realignment to you while weight-bearing. If you fail to see satisfactory results with conservative management, then an osteotomy could be helpful for you. Keep your weight at a healthy level, as this may be the #1 modifiable factor to prevent progression of your arthritis.

i've had knee replacement surgery almost 6 years ago and had trouble with it locking on me when i bend it and with severe pain. the x-ray shows soft tissue calcification anterior to distal femoral metaphysis. is this caused by the knee replacement?

A closed wedge-: -osteotomy will put the bone edges together and no graft is needed. the incision and bone cut R on the inner thigh. if bilateral, both knees will need correction.

Hard to say: There are a lot of possibilities.  An exam and x-ray would almost surely determine the cause.  If you had surgery, it could be a prominent screw.  Sometimes extra bone will form around a fracture that can appear as a lump that will usually remodel.  Consider being seen, .

Hemosiderin MRI: This may be consistent with a condition of the knee called pigmented villodular synovitis.  This is caused by inflammation of the lining of the knee joint (synovium) and resulting deposit of breakdown of blood products.  The cause is largely unknown.  The diagnosis of pigmented villonodular synovitis is confirmed by biopsy, and the treatment of choice is synovectomy.

had a cyst removed from my femur when 12 after a severe fracture and a titanium plate screwed into it. i am currently 33 and the left leg where the plate is located now causes me constant pain. is it even possible to remove the plate now?
