See ortho: Many times as soon as u injure it and look at it, if there is deformity at the joint, = dislocation with/with out fx and ligament damage. If deformity is between the joint, = fracture.

If it is just grossly swollen, u need to c an orth surg and b eval + xrays 2 b sure, and 2 get proper treatment no matter what u think it is!

Protect then move it: Xray is a good idea to confirm that the dislocation is reduced fully and that there is not a fracture. If that looks ok, 7-10 days of immobilization in a splint with occasional removal for cleaning and gentle range of motion.  Then more aggressive stretching and strengthening exercises with the finger taped to the one next to it above and below the affected joint  ("buddy taping").

See an orthopedist: Interphalangeal joint dislocations of the fingers is common. Typically associated with forced hyperextension or hyperflexion of the digit, they require immediate reduction. This joint is a hinge joint that allows only flexion and extension and consists of several ligamentous complexes. Patient have dislocation should consult specialist asap.

Depends on the : Damage, if able to reconstruct what was damaged possible. Sometimes ligaments shred and scar tissue develops etc and may not be able to fix like it was.

Depends...: A fracture on the end of the finger can be splinted easier than those close to the hand. The closer you get to the hand the higher your chances for a cast. There are various types of fracutres that can occur with a dislocation and some are more severe than others. Some may require simple splinting, and others may require surgery. Depends: It depends on the amount and nature of injury you had. If there's no fracture, i'd recommend buddy taping or having it in a finger splint for as long as the pain subsides and then you start doing some range of motion exercises until you are able to fully use it. If there's a fracture, the finger must be buddy taped for a number of weeks (depending on the fracture) and then as above.

Probably not: Arthritis has probably already set in.
