Discoid lupus: Discoid lupus erythematosus (dle) is a chronic skin condition of sores with inflammation, sun sensitivity, and scarring favoring the face, ears, and scalp and at times on other body areas. These lesions develop as a red, inflamed patch with a scaling and crusty appearance. The center areas may appear lighter in color with a rim darker than the normal skin.

If no better in 2-4 weeks, cortisone injections into the lesions or topical calcineurin inhibitors. If still no better in 2-4 more weeks, oral hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial medication. There are even further treatment for refractory cases but the above usually works.

Oral agents best: Lichenoid lupus refers to a specific type if rash sometimes photosensitive, which is oftern red and raised.  It occurs between the dermis and epidermis under the microscope.  Discoid may also start as a red area but will cause atrophy and scarring.   The best treatment is usually the oral agent plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).  Other options include sunscreen, moisturizers and topical steroids if the areas are small.

Drug-induced lupus: Yes, some prescription medications can definitely cause drug-induced lupus which often will resolve after the drug is stopped. Many of the drugs that can cause lupus do NOT cause lupus in the majority of people treated with them. There may be genetic susceptibility to drug-induced lupus and/or the right trigger. Many possible meds. Best way is to be evaluated by a board certified rheumatologist

hi. i have systematic lupus erythematosus but have not been on chronic medication of it for about 9 years and got a pneumococcal vaccine then too.corona- i feel fine but should i see a doctor to asses self quarantine opts or get another vaccination?

Pneumococcal vaccine: Prevent illness due to your chronic condition which fortunately seems to be stable by staying at home, working from home, washing your hands and avoiding contact with those who are ill. Another PCV vaccine is indicated, but please discuss with your PCP. 
If you develop symptoms, please notify your PCP and schedule an influenza and Coronavirus screening test.

i had an ana ifa screen w/reflex to titer and pattern blood test & the results were a homogeneous pattern is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus. is there a way to prove it is not drug-induced lupus? i take no medications?

: Anti histone antibody is classically associated with drug induced lupus.  Another question would be - what are the signs and symptoms suggesting lupus?  Most ANA are not significant.  Figures from 5-10% of the general population show positive lupus testing.  Most will never go on to lupus, fortunately.
