do over-the-counter eye drops treat dry eye syndrome or just relief symptoms ?, which eye drops do both ?

Provide relief: OTC eyedrops supplement what is missing from your natural tears (volume, composition).  They are not curative or a treatment of the underlying pathology.  There is no actual permanent treatment.  Restasis, a prescription drops for dry eyes, eliminates inflammatory causes for low tear flow but it also is not a cure.  Dry eyes are chronic with ups and downs depending upon many factors.

BAK Preservative: Benzalkonium Chloride is a common preservative in eye drops, including artificial tears. It can cause an allergic reaction in some people if the tears are used frequently. Try preservative-free single use vials of ocular lubricants and you should be okay for frequent dosing. Another alternative are these new electronic misting devices to spray a little cloud of clean water in your eyes. See EyeMD.

can you use lubricant eye drop like visine tears, dry eye relief as long as you want? or they are same as decongestant drops? does lubricant eye drops help clearing allergens?

Tears: Make sure additive free and more like a natural tear saline solution.

got dry eye made worse by wearing masks. get tear ducts plugged & use theratears. one eye feels sore under top lid. i gently clean my eyes with cotton & when i rub the eye it hurts. is that the dry eye or something else now?

Chalazion: This may be a chalazion which is a tender lump in the eyelid formed because of a plugged oil gland duct. This often resolves with hot(not too hot) moist compresses every few hours. If not improved consult an ophthalmologist for accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.

is it possible to get an acid/strong base in your eye and to not feel any pain? cleaned the bathroom with comet bleach, cant tell if my dry eye is caused by the usual retinol i wear every night or comet got in my eye and i just dont feel pain?

: If your eye is accidentally exposed to Comet powder, your eye will be irritated a lot.

blepharitis/ dermatitis also in my eyebrows for 9 yrs. scales/dry eye daily. prior, i did a hair replacement system for 10 yrs. the scalp bond wasn't clean often. could this have caused demodex? never had it before that. will brows/lashes grow back?

: I would see and Internist, skin Dr or eye Dr to see what is going on.  See who ever you can first.

See eye md: Need to find out the cause of this, so get an appointment with your eye doctor. In the mean time try some artificial tear drops, these you can buy over the counter.

What is the cause?: Dry eyes are a symptom. There are different reasons for this. Depending on the cause of the dry eyes there may or may not be a different medication.
Follow up with the prescriber. Eyes can be difficult to assess over the internet as we cannot do acuity testing.
Due to this limitation, I do not prescribe for the eyes online for best practices.

Depends: If you have mucous build-up, many times it is from poor clearance of debris on your eye surface, a result of dry eyes.  However, many other conditions can lead to discharge or mattering, including infections. Allergies typically do not lead to discharge if any type.

A thorough evaluation of dry eye issues, checking for  meibomian dysfunction and other health issues contributing to dry eye and contact lens intolerance with your eye md would help to see if any other treatments are indicated.
