wife has dilated fallopian tubes after hsg. dye traveled through tubes so no blockage. previous pregnancy (3yr old son). can she get pregnant w/o ivf?

Hard to say: Just having open Fallopian tubes is only one piece of an elaborate process.Does she ovulate? Are her eggs fertile? Are the sperm fertile and in enough volume to do the job? I would discuss this with the docs doing the evaluation and see where you go from here.

Yes: If you are unable to get pregnant due to problems with your fallopian tubes, you may be a candidate for in vitro fertilization (test-tube baby).   Some of your eggs and your partner's sperm are harvested and meet in the laboratory.  A few of the fertilized eggs are then placed back in your body.

Depends: It depends on the disease you have in the fallopian tube. If there is no inflammation and the motility (movement properties) are normal, you may be able to conceive. Also, the tube needs to be patent (free of obstacles in it) in order for the egg cell to move through it.

: Translation= The tube that did not opacify (fill with contrast agent) appears to be totally blocked. The right tube did but appears like a elongated balloon blocked at the end (it should be open &amp; contrast spill out). The womb has bands of tissue crossing where it should be open. The wash is likely an effort to open the blockage. Whether it is done or not the structures do not appear normal.

No infection?: If there is no evidence of a residual Fallopian tube infection then this will not affect you going forward. However, your MD must be certain that this is not an infection as chronic salpingitis  are like dumpster fires that smolder and flare up when unattended.

go to GYN: You might need to get a hysterosalpingography or uterosalpingography a radiologic procedure to investigate the patency of the tubes. An interventional radiologist can sometimes open the occluded tubes. Go to doctor to discuss options.

Scar tissue: Hydrosalpinx (fluid filled fallopian tube) occurs when the tube is scarred and the fluid produced by the cells lining the tube cannot get out.  This is generally caused by scar tissue from prior surgery, endometriosis, or sexually transmitted diseases.
