Adapelene gel belongs to class of retinoids  which are derivatives of vitamin A, THIS COMES UNDER THIRD GENERATION RETIONID AND is relaively got lesser side effects like lesser irritation on skin  than  conventional tretinoin

A little all over: These are topical drying agents. The goal is to prevent new lesion to form, so we treat the whole face rather than just spot treat. Apply a pea-sized amount to the full face nightly. If the dryness is not tolerable, you can try short contact of 15 minutes nightly for a couple of weeks and then leave on overnight. We expect a worsening of acne flare at 1-2 weeks, then better after 1-2 months.

Experiment: If it is mild and confined to your face, the former may be enough to keep fresh lesions from appearing. The second is a bit stronger. Neither will touch the marks or scars that follow the acute phase. Your physician may need to add stronger stuff.

Add moisturizer: Go back to using your meds but when your face gets dry use a moisturizer such as coconut oil and stop the drugs for a few days.

Too much good thing: Differin (adapalene) and tretinoin are both retinoids, they should not be combined- it's too much of a good thing.  The moisturizer will be helpful after applying your retinoid.  Good luck!  retinoids are fda approved for acne and fine lines.
